While I was in Massachusetts last week, I decided to buy my first pair of loafers! I brought my Mom with me to Nordstrom, and she did not understand why loafers are making a comeback (I shared her loafer feedback on my TikTok).
Loafers originally were worn by fishermen in Europe during the 1930's, and evolved in the 1950's as a popular shoe choice. They were often paired with bright white socks for a preppy look. Loafers had the benefit of being an elevated slip-on shoe without having to buckle or tie any laces.
Now that loafers have begun making a comeback, specifically the chunky-sole loafers, I have been experimenting with ways to style them (without it looking too old-lady). Sharing below a few styles of chunky loafers I love and ways I have styled mine.
These are an ode to the classic 50's loafer style. Easy to slip on and is a closet staple.
These are the loafers I purchased! I have begun styling these with bootcut jeans, sweater dresses and high socks. I love the "chunky" sole look.
Designed for an edgy + modern look, these style well with work attire, or long jeans and a blazer. |
