Coming to Scrub Island was the best experience to start off our trip in the BVI! Dan and I came down 3 days before a family sailing trip to relax, use some Marriott Bonvoy points and explore Scrub Island! It took 3 taxi's, 2 planes and 2 boats to get to the island, but I am happy to recommend to anyone looking for a place to stay before picking up their boat to stay here! Even after the hurricane, this island came back better and stronger. Here are our top things to do on the island before you pick up your sailboat:
1. Relax at the Scrub Island Resort Ixora Spa
The most BEAUTIFUL spa I've ever been to was my favorite experience on the island! The killer views, nicest employees and amazing treatments made it such a memorable experience that I wish I could re-live.
Dan and I got our first couple's spa treatment together! We picked the Couples Caribbean Escape, which included: body scrub + aroma massage + scalp massage. We both never had a body scrub but loved it! I loved having the body scrub first, followed by the massages to help hydrate the skin. It was definitely an experience I would love to have again. Also, I got a bikini wax before the trip to make self care on the boat easier.
The Ixora Spa had it's own infinity pool for guest to use with the most beautiful scenic views. Also, if you love yoga, you can take their morning yoga session overlooking the beautiful Caribbean Sea.
2. North Beach
North Beach has it's own bar (and can charge items to the hotel tab), towels, pool and beach chairs to use. We enjoyed this beach for how secluded, quiet and relaxing it was. To get to the beach from the Scrub Island Resort, Spa & Marina, you can take a small shuttle or walk over and enjoy the scenic views by foot.
While at the beach, we were able to use our DJI Mavic Pro drone and catch amazing views of the coral reefs around the island. We also saw a small reef shark via our drone footage.
3. Sit Poolside at the Scrub Island Resort, Spa & Marina
Sit back and relax with views of nearby islands while sipping cocktails. We loved coming here after a day out to recharge by the pool, grab a drink and relax together!
4. Eat at Donovan's Reef
We ate EVERYDAY and loved all our meals at Donovan's! I'm personally not a big drinker either and loved all the drinks we had! When we arrived at Scrub Island as hotel guests, we were greeted with their signature cocktail, xxx. It had xxx in it and they were dangerous from how easy they were to drink.
For food items, we continuously ordered over and over the Tropical salad + grilled chicken (add in), Scrub Island Fish Sandwich, and Eggs Florentine.
5. Eye-candy views and scenic photography
The views from Scrub Island were unbelievable. We could see Marina Cay, Virgin Gorda, Tortola, Beef Island, Dog Islands and more. The crystal clear, turquoise water of the Caribbean could be seen at all times. If you are a drone-enthusiast, you could take off from North Beach and take photos and videos of the coral below. We used our DJI Mavic Pro, DJI Oslo Pocket, Nikon D5600 and iPhone to take all of our photos.
If you need a place to dock up for the day and/or night, or planning your next stay in the Caribbean before you pick up your boat, I highly suggest staying at the Scrub Island Resort, Spa & Marina . I wish we were coming back after our boat trip to stay again. Our next adventures now start in Tortola as we pick up our sailboat with The Moorings Company and begin trek sailing the British Virgin Islands!
